Office 365 Connect
Deep two-way integration between Links and Microsoft 365 — calendar sync, room mailboxes, Teams notifications, and directory sync.
This guide begins with What is Office 365 Connect?, continues through Setup & admin consent, Room calendar sync, Teams notifications, and finishes with Azure AD directory sync.
What is Office 365 Connect?
Office 365 Connect is a premium Links addon that creates a deep, bidirectional integration with your Microsoft 365 tenant. It goes far beyond basic OAuth calendar sync:
| Feature | Basic Calendar Sync | Office 365 Connect |
|---|---|---|
| Personal calendar sync | ✅ | ✅ |
| Room mailbox sync | ❌ | ✅ |
| Teams notifications | ❌ | ✅ |
| Azure AD directory sync | ❌ | ✅ |
| Exchange Online rooms | ❌ | ✅ |
| Outlook add-in | ❌ | ✅ |
Setup & admin consent
Step 1 — Enable the addon
Go to Dashboard → Addons → Office 365 Connect → Enable.
Step 2 — Grant admin consent
A Microsoft 365 Global Admin must consent to the required permissions. Click Grant Admin Consent — you'll be redirected to the Microsoft consent page.
Required permissions:
Calendars.ReadWrite— read and write room calendarsUser.Read.All— sync user directoryTeam.ReadBasic.All— send Teams notificationsPlace.Read.All— read Exchange room list
Step 3 — Connect room mailboxes
After admin consent:
Addons → Office 365 Connect → Room Mailboxes → Sync
Links automatically discovers all Exchange Online room mailboxes in your tenant and prompts you to map them to Links spaces.
Room calendar sync
Once room mailboxes are connected, Links provides full bidirectional sync:
- Links booking → Outlook: a meeting invite is sent to the room mailbox, appearing in all attendees' Outlook calendars
- Outlook meeting → Links: if someone books via Outlook directly (e.g. inviting the room), Links reflects the block and prevents double-booking
Sync latency: < 5 seconds for outbound (Links → Outlook), up to 60 seconds for inbound (Outlook → Links).
Teams notifications
With Office 365 Connect, booking notifications are delivered directly to Microsoft Teams:
What triggers a Teams message:
- Booking confirmed → notification to host
- Booking cancelled → notification to host and attendees
- Visitor arrives → notification to visitor's host
- Auto-release triggered → warning to booking owner
Setup:
Addons → Office 365 Connect → Teams → Configure Notifications → Save
Notifications are sent as adaptive cards — interactive messages with Confirm/Cancel buttons directly in Teams.
Azure AD directory sync
Automatically provision and deprovision Links users based on your Azure AD:
- New employees in AD → automatically added to Links as Members
- Employees removed from AD → Links access revoked within 24 hours
- Group memberships → map AD groups to Links roles
Configure under Office 365 Connect → Directory Sync → Mappings:
{
"ad_group": "All Employees",
"links_role": "member"
},
{
"ad_group": "Facilities",
"links_role": "manager"
},
{
"ad_group": "IT Admins",
"links_role": "admin"
}
